Course Descriptions

Bridge Basics 1 is a class for people who have never played bridge before or who may have learned the game a long time ago and are looking for a refresher course. We cover the fundamentals of bidding, play and defense. The course uses modern techniques of 15-17 notrump ranges and invitational jump raises.

Bridge Basics 2 is a perfect follow up to BB1 or a good starting point for people who have had other classes. It covers competitive bidding techniques including modern ideas such as weak 2 bids, preemptive jump raises, and negative doubles.

Bridge Basics 3 finishes the beginner series with an introduction to the most common conventions currently used. We introduce Jacoby Transfers, Stayman, Strong 2 Clubs, and slam techniques including Blackwood and Gerber.

Intermediate 1 introduces the student to more advanced techniques. We spend more time bidding and playing hands and reviewing them. The student will learn how to think about a bridge hand. We will cover safety plays, avoidance plays, and learn how to combine our chances. We will look at different defensive issues including suit preference and placing cards.
